22nd Annual Monacan Indian Nation Powwow | May 17-18th, 2014

The Monacan Indian Nation is one of the oldest groups of indigenous people still existing in their ancestral homeland.  Recognized as a tribe by the State of Virginia, the Monacan people have lived on Bear Mountain in Amherst County for over 10,000 years.  The tribe has preserved past heritage and ancient customs, bringing together the Siouan language and culture.  The Annual Monacan Powwow is a public celebration where visitors and locals are welcomed by the tribe to share a rare spirit of community and learn more about their culture.  All art and crafts are for sale.
